    Evening all,

I am looking at some vertical planters to attach to the fence down our garden, to grow veg. I was thinking about using some metal drain pipes but then i saw a clip where somebody used large dia bamboo attaching them together with rope and hanging them off the wall.

Anybody done this with bamboo, how can i stop them rotting outside in uk weather?

    Regards
    James

Not sure that a fence could take the weight of metal drain pipes or large bamboo containers plus the compost/water/plants etc. unless it's very, very sturdy. You might be better off with the fabric veg containers sold for the job.

    Good luck anyway.

I share the concerns re weight but if you were doing this then I would have thought bamboo would have a relatively long lifespan. At least as long as the plastic, which will get brittle eventually
