I hope it is ok to post about a seed supplier who has given good customer service as I know we are not meant to advertise as such!
I just felt we can all be somewhat quick to complain and not always be quite so prompt to commend.
I ordered quite a lot of onion sets from a seed company I have not used before JustSeed UK - Top Quality Flower and Vegetable Seeds Online
Their price was very competitive and had the variety and quantity I wanted.
The sets were despatched very promptly.
The sets were delivered to my home (via Royal Mail 48hour) some time this week but the box they came in was too big to go through the letter box. Our normal postie knocks on the door to let me know there is a parcel outside. Despite being in ( hardly had my nose outside the door as so bl..dy cold!) I never heard the delivery van or a knock on the door.
The temperatures here have been extremely cold, about -9oc and never going above freezing during the day. Yesterday I opened the front door and discovered the box of onion sets.
Brought them inside and it was quite obvious they were frozen solid……insert something stronger than bother!
I spread them out to defrost. A couple that defrosted first were soft and mushy, not good!
I decided to contact the supplier as was pretty sure but not certain that the sets would not be viable but wanted their advice.
I emailed them yesterday ( Saturday) and got an almost immediate reply saying they would be in touch. I get an email today ( Sunday) to say they will be sending replacements 1st class tomorrow and apologised for the inconvenience.
You cannot ask for more than that as it was not the suppliers fault. Gold star to Just Seed and I will be sure to try and give them more business in the future.

I agree that that is good service. However, if they had emailed you to let you know they were on the way, and perhaps that they had been delivered, the problem could have been avoided. So I don't agree that the supplier was completely blameless.
I order a lot of books from ebay for 2 or 3 £s including delivery and usually get emails confirming dispatch and delivery, so it can be done.

The supplier usually sends an email to say the item has been dispatched. But after that it's in the hands of the delivery company - Royal Mail, EVRi etc. Some of them will give you a one hour slot and then an email to say it's been delivered, others are not so helpful.

However your contract is with the supplier, so if there is a problem with delivery it is up to the supplier to sort it.

I did get a email to say the sets had been despatched but with the weather causing havoc with deliveries I had no idea when the delivery would happen so don’t feel the company could have done much more than they did. If anybody is at fault I think it might be him upstairs for the hellish cold weather recently. Thanks to him it is a bit milder today. :)Glad you were able to give Justseed some business.

Thought I would give some positive feedback on Dobies seeds.

I bought a couple of fruit trees that turned out to be smaller than I thought they should be from their description.

Sent in a complaint, fast response, apologies and full refund given. So all good in the end, mistakes happen.

Just to say that we find Royal Mail 48 very good but I suppose it depends on the individual doing the delivery. Our postie, and those that relieve him on days off etc., are very good. We have a small chest of drawers in our open porch and they always leave things in a drawer if there is no answer. With our regular postie, if he sees the cars in the driveway (we don't have a garage) and it is a nice day he will pop to our back garden and give a yell. If we have anything that needs posting we just leave it sticking out of our letterbox and all the posties will take it for us.

We, now, use Royal Mail 48 quite a lot as we sell books and the postie picks them up from us and sticks the mail labels on - all part of the service.

Absolutely agree, normally our postie does the same for me and takes letters etc if already stamped saving a round trip of about 5 miles to the nearest PO or PO box. The issue with the onion sets was unusual and maybe not the usual postman. I have always found The Royal Mail vastly superior to other delivery companies and as for Evri……just no!
I think it is appalling that The Royal Mail now called International Distribution Services is all but sold to some a Hungarian Oligarch who probably made his billion by less than honest means. It is being sold for what I am sure will turn out to be a very cheap price, why else would the billionaire want to buy it? There must be some people originally with Royal Mail who will be or have been given very nice handouts. We will all live to regret this I fear.

Royal Mail became IDS in autumn 2022. IDS is currently being sold to EP Group. EP Group is owned by a Czech billionaire. This deal is expected to be completed first quarter 2025.
A different company, also owned by Daniel Kretinsky, already owned 20 to 30% of IDS.
