I only have one, its a small bush but I don't think its survived this harsh winter. Its leaves have really wilted, I've cut a section off and it looks rather sickly inside-not a healthy green at all and there are no new buds appearing. Its not shedding any leaves, but will it recover?

Anyone got any ideas? I'm leaving it for another few weeks to see if it starts to recover. Otherwise its coming out-I have a waiting room full of plants that can go in its place!:hehe:

IS it a green one or one of those pointless purply and silvery ones?

If it`s green it might be ok if its one of the others bin it-they`re useless.

Its easiest to show a pic. It blooms with a purple flower although not this year I suspect!

I`d get shot Aaron but it`s up to you, if it`s that bad I don`t suppose there`d be much hope for cuttings.

Aaron, it looks like a H.speciosa to me. If it`s a young plant, it is quite tender. Personally, I would cut it back to about 6" and see what happens.:thumb:

This will be its second winter. It wilted a bit last year but bounced back fine, despite a poorly hen we kept in that part of the garden having fun eating all the leaves. Perhaps that's what it needs then, a good pruning!

David, I was watching an old Gardeners World on the gardening channel and it showed them sinking the entire dodgy looking hebe into compost-only leaving the good tips out of soil, possibly for commercial reasons ie more hebes-is it worth having a bash at that do you think?-I have one that isn`t anywhere near as bad as Aarons but there`s nothing doing for the first two feet of branches on it.

I'll go for the hard pruning as that's my gut reaction, followed by binning it!

Claire, that pic is deceptive, its only just over a foot in height. It was an impulse, reduced in price buy at Homebase.

Claire, hebes also root on the stems quite easily so if you want lots, then submerge the plant, or if you want it to spread do the same.:gnthb:

It`s a nice plant really with lovely white flowers.

( Just noticed you have a fan club David, I`m joining if that`s alright)
