I have some broad beans growing in the vegetable plot. I have been watching for the first signs of blackfly for several weeks now without any seen. While watering the flower borders I spotted large clusters of blackfly on the nasturtium leaves, it looks as though they are more attractive to blackfly than the broad beans.

Maybe that's the answer, grow plenty of nasturtiums if you want to keep the blackfly off the broad beans.

I'm sure the blackfly population is well capable of expanding in order to spread to your beans and the ants will help in the process.

I know most blackfly look the same to the naked eye, I'm just wondering if the one that attacks nasturtiums might be a different one to that, that attacks beans.

I know blackfly are said to be attracted to broad beans , Larkshall, but I've never had them on mine.
I grow nasturtiums as sacrificial plants but they don't seem to attract the blackfly or slugs either.
I think I'm lucky and don't get the pests.
