... have to drop Her Royal Yappiness, Ayla, off at the vets when they open tomorrow.

She's being neutered but also needs two 'fang' puppy teeth removed and her tear ducts flushed :rolleyespink:

I'm accustomed to my fur-boys being neutered (feline and canine), but this is my first experience with a female. Got my fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.

I'm assuming she'll be up and about as quickly as the fur-boys? :dunno: Really should have asked at the vets, shouldn't I

I'm only used to fur boys Mum....but i understand fur girls need a bit extra TLC...it's a bigger OP for girls and will take a bit longer to heal...i'm sure she'll be just fine:doggieshmooze: the hardest job is keeping them down so they don't over do things:phew:
Big :grphg: for Ayla...she'll soon be up and about:dbgrtmb:

If dogs are anything like cats, she'll be a bit groggy initially, with basic food if she fancies eating. But after that, again if anything like cats, she'll be up and about pretty sharpish. It'll just be to keep her worrying at the stitches and overly-exerting herself :) it's amazing how much more quickly animals recuperate than we do! :)

Sure she will fine, we get more wound up than them, thinking of changing Maddies name to Meryll after the oscar winning performance this morning, banged her leg on a flower pot while "talking" to my neighbour this morning, Stood there leg in the air at an angle, neighbour was in hysterics, checked pad, wrist, shoulder, gave them all a good rub and off she went. :roflol:

          Thank all :)

Hmm, sounds like some 'crate' rest will be in order - she's a hyper little dynamo when she's her usual self, so this might be interesting!

Pam, it's wonderful to hear how Maddie/Meryll is settling in and how she has enriched your world. She's sounds a great character :dbgrtmb:

Hope all goes well for Ayla tomorrow 'M'. :) She'll no doubt be feeling a little sorry for herself when it's all over.

Picked her up a 1630hrs and a pitiful squirt she looks too: Buster collar and all.

I've broken my golden rule about this little madam and had her on my lap for an hour to comfort her  (that is despite me insisting she will *not* be treated like a lap dog/toy/baby but like a *dog* at all times: it's just ... she has been through the mill a bit today with her tear ducts, two teeth out and the main op. She must ache from head to tail!). Just an hour, mind! Tomorrow it's back to: "Down, Ayla!" :nonofinger:

                        Curious thing:

She is wearing a "Buster Collar" (great invention for hindering an animal from licking/picking stitches :dbgrtmb: )

She has to wear it for the 10 days until her stitches are removed: fine!

However, she cannot eat, or drink wearing it. Fine: she's drowsy, doesn't want to eat, or even drink!

Now, tomorrow, once the sedation has worn off, she is going to be back to her hypo-dynamo self. But, she still will not be able to eat or drink wearing the Buster Collar. So, advice from vets is: take it off during those times. Fair enough.

But that doesn't take into consideration: 1) eating can be a day long process (breed); drinking ought to be an ad hoc basis (especially in this heat!); c) the whole purpose of the collar is so she does not mither her stitches - she hasn't learned to read "English" ... yet!

Anyone with any experience of female hypo-dog syndrome able to offer any pragmatic advice for the next 10 days, please? I'm almost afraid of touching her in case I cause her any discomfort (although I'm sure she'll let me know it if I do!)

awww poor Ayla, give her a kiss & cuddle from me please M....& put her on your knee, its my cuddle so my rules ;):rofllol:is the "Buster Callar" the same as an Elizabethan Collar? if it where me (& with this heat) i think i'd leave it off & just watch her closely to make sure she doesn't go to town on it licking it excessively.

Your wish is my command, HB! She is on my lap as I type ;)

Yes, a Buster Collar is pretty much an "Elizabethan" style collar (sans ruffles!). My only issue with leaving it off is: she is an 8mth old "puppy" and will wiggle, squirm, manipulate herself to her own devices! Now, that may have been 'manageable' IF she had been given any sense of discipline/training during her short months: she has not (other than the past 2-3 weeks of intense training from us/me!)

The stitches are very apparent and very enticing (from a doggy perspective!) in the lick/nibble/chew department. I'm still stunned that, when Oz was neutered, he got dissolvable stitches + liquid painkiller; yet, she has traditional stitches and pill painkiller (which I have to 1/4 before administering!? We're talking Pom+Queen Fussy of the Fussiest Canine here!!??

Oh flub! She's going to vomit ... byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
