Anyone got one they would recommend. I'd prefer one that can also ring our existing door bell.

Don't have one but there are lots of reviews online, though you might find the recent Gadget Shows Ytubes more practical reviews enlightening which demonstrate their full features.
Just search on "best video doorbell gadget show"

No personal experience if them but sister in law has one they're happy with. I think it's a Ring.
If you're bought into any Google or Amazon ecosystem then they do their own versions

Thanks for your help and ideas @ricky101 @wiseowl and @Loofah - after watching some online reviews I've come to the conclusion a video doorbell isn't for me. I can see they have a use but for a retired couple spending time at home it doesn't seem necessary.

It depends on how you want to view your security, sometimes a doorbell camera can be handy to avoid going to the door for some less dubious callers, plus if out in the back garden or upstairs and someone rings the doorbell camera you get an alert on your phone which can be handy, if you remember to keep your phone with you at all times like the young folk do.

We use a simple DVR camera system to monitor the driveway /doors, very handy for seeing whos been lurking around etc, also allows you to monitor / get motion detect alerts of your home remotely which can be handy if you are away a lot.

This was the main reason I started thinking about them. Most delivery companies buzz and run so even if I'm in the house can't always get there in time. It's not really deliveries Ithat was on my mind, it's family and friends calling, but they all have my mobile so can just ring if no reply.

Was there some law that cameras can only operate with just your property in view?
Only when I was on a jury a while back the main evidence was from a door bell camera.
And you could see way down the street, bit of a cheek in my view for that to be allowed to happen, nosey neighbours come to mind.

I suppose it depends on your situation. Where we are, nobody comes to the door unless they're delivering (don't have many deliveries) or popping in for a visit. If there's no answer at the door, and the cars are in the driveway, they just wander round the back. We get a lot of people popping round. The other day seven people (separately) stopped by. It's all very sociable and we have plenty of milk :heehee:.

                I don't have a mobile so they can't phone me :)
