A lot of you know that Mrs shiney and I open our garden for a local charity that runs clubs for mentally handicapped (sorry, I'm non PC) children and gives respite for their families. They have to raise all their own money and so we do what we can for them

As some of you have supported us with this and some of you have even turned up to our open day I thought it would be nice to show you this video. The charity, Grove Cottage, have only just made the video and posted it on You Tube.

    Thanks roders and ziggy :)

They eventually benefitted by over £3,000 from our garden and we have been working on raising other money for them. They have received nearly £2,000 through events I have run through my bridge clubs and Mrs shiney recommended to the W.I. that they support Grove cottage with their big jumble sale this spring - which they have agreed to do. :dbgrtmb:

[size=large]What a worthy cause Shiney. Every success to you.
The politicians advocating the Big Society should have a look around and see how much work people already do - I'm off my hobby horse now !
I do remember seeing your beautiful garden. I hope you will put on another video showing your garden prepared for an open day.
Every best wish to you and Mrs Shiney.
    The world needs you.

    Thanks Jazmine,

We will be open this year on the end of May Bank Holiday - Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th. This year we hope to open through the lunch time on Saturday as well. I think we shall have enough helpers to be able to work a rota for the teas. We averaged serving nearly 45 teas per hour for the whole of the time we were open! :rolleyespink:

Well done Shiney, what a lot of money you have made for them! It's such a shame that the govt does not support these charities, I wouldn't mind paying an extra penny income tax if it went to good causes like this.

A very worthwhile charity and well done for your support both of you.:dbgrtmb:
I will try and do my bit for your open day again. Much as I would like to support it in person it is a little too far for a day trip.
