    Hi Folks

Need urgent advice, I've found my vine in my greenhous poluted with ants, what's the best way to get rid of the little blites?

Vine is very healthy so I'm not wanting to do any damage to it with foreign pesticides.

Hi Gerard, my cure for ants is lavender water in a spray bottle.. I just get a bottle of lavender essential oil tip it into a 1ltr spray bottle, fill up the mark with water & spray all around with it, shaking periodically especially concentrating on cracks & crevices, the stems of my plants, :WINK1: (I try to keep it off the leaves), the floor as well & I also found this worked well on the paths as well.. A couple of times a week until gone..

Gerard, I doubt the ants are doing any harm.

Have a close look for greenfly, ants are attracted to them as they collect the honey dew the greenfly secreet.

Other than that they might just be attracted to sap if the vine is bleeding somewhere.

Hi I agree with Pete, could also be scale insect on the stems attracting them

Have a good nose about and watch what they are doing without disturbing them

    Hi again

I don't see any bleeding or greenfly. Would it be the general census just to leave them? The vine is thriving, bearing a handsome crop by the looks of things. It's an early crop vine so if these little visitors aren't harming the plant I'd prefer not to spray.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Hi
I would leave it alone, they probably up to somthing, maybe like my peony in the garden the un-opened flower buds are covered in ants and they are collecting sugary stuff ??

    Only spray when needed

Never known ants to attack a plant, so I would say just leave them to it.

There is obviously something attracting them but not worth spaying to just destroy the ants.
