Vine Weevil I think?

was putting in some plants and I seen these and have also seen bigger ones all of which I took out but my next door has seen them as well. are they Vine Weevil?
having read up on them things sound pretty dim if you get them in your dirt as I read they eat all the roots

is there a way to get rid of them once there in the garden soil?

Two ways to get rid....nematodes or a chemical like Provado.

When you see these grubs excavate around the susceptible plants....primulas, fuchsias, heucheras for example....and pick out the grubs. Squash them or spread them out on a sheet of plastic for the birds.

A third control is to try and catch the adult weevils...they mainly come out at night but can be seen climbing walls

 

Thanks Verdun, does nematodes or a chemical like Provado penetrate the dirt or does it go into the roots and kill the lava, what I pain my 1st year of becoming a gardener as well :(

thanks its mainly flowers I seen them in front garden so may as well buy some for both me and next door where is best place to buy it please? how does it kill the lava dies it go into the roots to kill them or just kill the beetles themselves

 

@lowrider69 I'm lucky in a way that nearly all of my growing in the back yard is in pots, so when I've spotted them in the past it's been fairly easy for me to deal with - I hand pick them out and the chickens get a treat. If you can and there aren't too many established plants in the way, I wonder if digging over as much soil as possible and then letting birds have a feast would help like @Verdun above suggests?, sounds like a sensible thing to do to me! Marley is totally correct....never use any insecticide around edibles.

Plusses and minuses re nematodes or Provado:

Nematodes can only be used during the growing season approx from May to September. They are microscopic creatures that destroy vine weevils at the larvae stage. Totally safe, environmentally neutral and natural. The weevils hatch mainiy in autumn and spring so application at these times can control these pests. "How does it kill the larvae"? Millions of bacteria infect the weevil larvae. It happens naturally in nature but applying extra nematodes concentrates the effect.

Provado can be used at any time of year and if there is an infestation seen in winter only the chemical is effective?

You cannot use both the chemical and nematodes at the same time.

I do not use either wholesale....I mean I know what plants weevils focus on here and apply around these and I have pretty good control now.

Important lowrider....you need a very coarse rose on your watering can. A normal rose will be useless.
A Hawes (number 14 from memory but check it out) is needed and available online

A rose......the removable spray on watering can.....has different size holes according to what is being used or whether a fine spray or heavy spray is required. For nematodes a rose with larger holes is needed or they will be quickly blocked.
Look online for info re nematodes and type in "rose size"
