Yes the dreaded vine weevil-just found a larvae in a poppy-having a snooze no doubt the insidious litle b$&^")*!!!!!!

So it is at large in the garden. Worst of it is that my herbaceous peonies are about 4 ft away from where I found this creature. So this means war-just about got the snails under some level of control and these sods turn up.

I am organic-BUT there is no way in hell are these touching my peonies or roses so I need a predator or some other sure fire control.

Anyone found anything that does the biz?

Cheers Rob, I nearly swore ( in fact I did lol) when I saw it, then I crushed it with a certain amount of glee.

I am out after dark with my torch looking for the weevil itself. My neighbours must think I'm mad but if I do find them - and stamp on them with a feeling of great satisfaction!

Good luck Claire in ridding yourself of these little *******

Don't Provado also make a special vine weevil killer? (Yes, I know its not organic but when you want them dead this badly...)

I would use it if necessary, if all else fails a chemical insecticide will be my very last resort Andy, the problem with using provado is that it is hardly selective with what it terminates. Don't want all the ladybirds and spiders snuffing it, or there will be nowt left to kill all the greenfliy, and then I'll be after greenfly insecticide, which in turn wipes out all the rest, there'll be no end to it-all the while wiping out all the insects I have gone to great lengths to attract in.

I see the common sense in being organic and have to use all organic methods available to me first. I can't fall at the first hurdle. But thanks for the suggestion-and it certainly would be what I would use if I weren't trying very very hard to be good.

Besides, I have already ordered the nematodes so will report back with any success.
