Vitis Cuttings

Hi,
I'm having a pretty low cutting strike rate with these. I used the material I pruned off for about 50 cuttings. They were about 2-3 in, with a single bud on each one. I'm now experimenting with different techniques to see which is best, my strike rate has been about 25%.

My question is, what is the best way to take cuttings of these?

25% sounds good enough to me, unless I was growing a vineyard.
Isn't it a bit soon to say which have rooted and which have not?

Hard wood cuttings is normal I think ,but I have rooted cuttings from the new shoots as softwood cuttings about four inches long.

 

Yes, I think it may be early to say for sure with some of them, but some are obviously dead; they have just had the buds go black and the stems rot, whereas a few are showing strong new growth.

 

Not too bad, 9 survived :D
