Vivid blue flowers

    UnknownFlower.jpg Early every summer this nettle like plant growing on a roadside verge bursts into a show of bright blue flowers. It grows about two feet high and stays in flower most of the summer. I've been trying to put a name to it but drawn a blank. Can anyone identify it for me??

    Green alkanet aka Pentaglottis sempervirens is the most likely, though it could also be Comfrey.

        Thanks everyone, thats the stuff. 'Erself was thinking of planting some in the garden for the bright spash of colour, may not be such a good idea from what I'm reading.

        Farmers grew lots of it around here a few years ago ("crop of the moment" or subsidies or somesuch), and it has lurked on hedgerows ever since.
