I have a voodoo lily from last year, and once again it's sending up a stalk which will have palmate leaves on first instead of sending up a huge purple spathe. Each year the bulb gets bigger too, will a flower apear one yr? Was planted in garden last summer and sent up quite a few shoots, looked lovely but I want a spathe!! You can just put them on a saucer with no compost on your windowsill, but I did that to start off last yr but got leaves. [IMG]

They wont flower until they reach a big enough size T O.Its best to grow them in a large pot, that way they ripen off better in late summer. Thats if your talking about what I think you are.
We had a disscusion on this one last year, seems we can have different ideas as to what a voodoo lilly is. [IMG]

    Genus 'Sauromatum'
    Species 'guttatum'
    Synonym 'venosum'

Some people think a dracunculus vulgaris is a voodoo lily but it'd not. [IMG]

Thanks everyone, yep I would like it to flower, but as you say the leaves are lovely like a little grove of palms in the garden. Not bothered about smell or flies as I have 5 dracunculus and they smell bad too when open and theres always flies around them too. [IMG]

My dracunculus vulgaris as of Thursday looked just like yours MF, I had been watching and waiting for it to open for days. we have started a new system of composting kitchen waste and when I came down next morning the kitchen STANK!!!! I quickly realised what it was and stuck the offending beast outside, sadly the next morning, the big purple thing (influresent) was so heavy, it had all toppled over.
the others had over wintered outside and are a couple of weeks behind - I love them, all very dramatic!

This was my sauromatum venosum last year, I started it off in the house then planted it out in the garden for the summer.

This year the corm is even bigger!
