First and last time I saw one was over 50 years ago when it was still being tested.
This one was paying a visit to Leuchars RAF air show today. The base is about 15 miles away, but the plane flew a couple of circuits that were visible from our garden. It was still a few miles away but close enough for a few pics.

Great old dinosaur of the past Dave, reminds me of when aviation was exciting.

When I was very young, one flew very low over our street on its way to do a fly-by display at the gala that was on at the local racecourse. I thought it was a spaceship and the combination of deafening roar and the menacing appearance scared me half to death, so I ran in the house in tears. My dad explained that it wasn't going to bomb us, but would bomb the baddies, as the aeroplane was on our side. That was good enough for me so I cheered up.

Feel free Robert if you have the time. It wouldn't spoil the thread, only enhance it.

Lets go back a few years.
    Probable 1964.
    Location RAAF Butterworth, Malaysia.
As part of my duties out there I served some time on the SASS section.
We would entertain all types of aircraft from all over the world.

You will see in the background a Vulcan.
It was on the wing of one of those I was very close to collapsing with exhaustion. It must have been about 120/130F on top of those wings. I remember struggling to get off and out of the aircraft and head for crew room after drinking three/four pints I started to recover.
It was one awful feeling to suddenly stop sweating and feel really nasty.
Not a good place on top of a Vulcan to suffer from dehydration!
With all visiting aircraft we would ask the crew/pilot to give us a show if they could. Many did.
We had a crew room located in isolation from most of the other buildings.
This vulcan took off and disappeared behind Penang Island.
Shortly, we spotted him coming in low direct for our crew room.
He pulled up directly over us and gave it all he had.
Wow... it was like standing at the base of a rocket..

    You want more?
    OK
How about being knocked down by a Red Arrow!
    Tis true I tell you!
Well it more like forced to hit the deck.
I was about 50 foot from the edge of the runway and two of the Gnats the Arrows then used turned directly after takeoff and headed for a small group of use.
Welll. I ask you, what would you do when a Red arrow is about 10 feet off the deck and heading for you at about 200 knots....
