Lovely puppies but each to their own opinion - I don't agree with docking, not natural, sorry. :(

    (thought it was illegal now)

Waco & jjordie, know what you mean about the "Docking" personally I would prefer if they were not docked but as they need to see which ones would be good for showing they do all of them when they are a few days old, as I'm sure you know. The law changes next year where only working dogs are allowed to be docked.

On a humane level docking is clearly unecessary unless they hunt or at a stretch show, but superficially there is nothing sillier than a terrier with a long tail. :D On the flip side I think dobes look pretty good with tails.

I am a student vet nurse, and I am totally against tail docking. In the first veterinary surgery I worked in ,we had to go with the vet and hold these poor unfortunate creatures whilst this procedure was carried out..quite the most horrid thing you can imagine, and any breeder who tells owners that its just a moments discomfort is clearly lying( they writhe around for hours and the mother of the pups is extremly distressed to see her puppies hurt.As far as removing tails on working dogs..my father worked 2 spaniels with tails without problems, and I now work in a rural practice which serves working dogs( with tails) and we have never seen a problem with them having tail injuries whilst working. Its the showing fraternity who are still to blame for this cruelty. I am glad to say that at the surgery I now work at we will not carry out routine tail docking.memories of the time I spent at the surgery who did dock tails will stay with me forever. This post is not intended as a criticism of the purchaser of such puppies, but an opinion of someone who has had first hand experience of docking. I wish you lots fun with your new puppy, she looks lovely .

Oh dear I opened a can of worms here!

I am not going to get into this, but must set record straight, I have seen pups have tails docked for many years and it has been a real non event, a slight squeek from pup and all over and done with.

Then there are dew claws to consider - no one has even dreamed of asking for this to be made illegal and this is a much harder job.

Then what about the sheep in the fields who you see on a daily basis grazing with their rubber rings round their tails - is that to be banned too?

I think it is all in the way the thing is handeled mysaelf and I am sorry poppy that you have had such a horrid experience with "Professional" people who should know better.

no offence meant by the subject.

Only experienced terriers for working pulling them out of rabbit holes it is easier to grab the base of the docked tail than trying not to yank higher up the less robust top of the tail. But I agree this is no reason to do it. Breed standards are a contentious issue and there are some horrific proceedures carried out to get 'the look'. Especially dobermans with cropped ears and the like. :( Regardless of breed standards it can only be a good thing to reduce cruelty to animals regardeless of whether you view docking as being at the lower end of that or not. Still think terriers with tails look rediculous :D and Im sure the purchasers of suedobie's gorgeous pups think the same about this breed.

Nope - can't agree. Apart from being down right cruel, docking is un-necessary and totally un-natural. Who are we - mere mortals - to redesign God's creations? Go figure it.

Good for you Poppy and I'm with you Michaelmasdaisy. I loathe the whole idea of docking the tails of dogs or horses. Ever seen a horse with no tail trying to switch away flies? Over the centuries, we have bred some very unfortunate dogs just for fashion or sport. Think of the breathing difficulties of pugs and bulldogs, the little legs of corgis and dachshunds. So called "dog-lovers" do not have the right to maim animals. Breeders do it to make money of course.
