It's being done, there's a tower scaffold stacked behind it

Church is the wrong way round, what should be the South porch is facing East

Imagine the telling off the builders would have got for that.

At one point in history, churches were all built with four main doors, one in each wall facing north, east, south and west. The main, main door, faces south. Something to do with the light of the sun, because as we all know, the Christians weren't Sun God worshippers at all had its pure coincidence that many of their core beliefs tally with those that worshipped mythras 500 years before Jesus was born.

The east door is the second most important, as it faces the rising sun, again it's about the divine light.

At some point in history (not sure when, it was even before I was born), someone said there shouldn't be a north door, as north is the darkness, or a west door, facing the setting sun, as both represented the dark. Interestingly, you'll find a lot of churches where you can clearly see evidence of a west door, but it's been bricked up to keep the devil out.

There may well be errors and inaccuracies in my understanding. It all comes from my time at cult school when I was a kid.

Thanks for the info :blue thumb:

I tend to know more about traditions and religious ideas for distant countries but not a lot here

What you said reminded me of why Christian converts (from the local Indian tribes) in the hinterland of S. America still make the entrance to their churches with a high, thick, step. I originally thought it was for security but, apparently, it's to stop the devil creeping in at ground level.

                      This step is typical.
