I need to place some new wall support wires for a trumpet vine. Previously I've just opted for solid galvanised wire twisted through screw eyes; this has done the job but wasn't super-taught and I wondered if stranded wire would be better, and if so what fixings to use to clamp the wire? I've seen a gizmo called 'gripple' but no idea if any good.
I'd like it to look a bit nicer than twisted wire as it's near a seating area

Hi @Loofah , I used the Gripple wire system several years ago for a wisteria and found it very good. The main stockists now are Rivelin Glen Products.

I've put up wires for the first time this year, and tried two systems. First I bought a kit from Amazon which contained the wire, vine eyes and turnbuckle wire tensioners. The turnbuckles make it really easy to get the wire taut. The wire was so strong I had to put in another order for a wire cutting tool!

I thought it was all a bit of a fiddle though, and when I saw the Gripple system I thought it looked easier so bought it for the second fence I wanted to wire up. It was easier, but I couldn't get it as taut as with the turnbuckles. So any future attempts will be back to the turnbuckle method.

I've got the gripple type on many fence panels around the garden.
Really easy to install and after 8 years they are all still great.
I've only had to retension 1 or 2 which takes about 30 seconds
The plastic 'wire' can bear a lot of weight too

I got mine from Rivelin Glen

The stranded wire all reads as being strong but I'm wondering what guage to go for.
I think I might opt for 1/16 (1.6mm ish) and see if it feels strong enough.
I might also cheap out a bit and go for simple crimps over the gripples!
