I have grown some wallflowers from seed and have potted them on once. Should I plant them out into the garden now or pot them on again so they can get a bit stronger? they are looking a bit sorry for themselves at the moment.

    Thanks [IMG]

Hi Stingo, depends if you have the space for them, or if you have the pots.
They need planting out after your annual bedding is finished where you want them to flower next spring, so potting on or planting in the garden would be OK until then, of course if you have space where you want them to flower plant them there any time.

    Hi Mike

I will have a space for them when I dig up this years fading wallflowers, so I could just plant them straight out there then?

Sounds easier than potting on, I grew them in the greenhouse as I never have much luck with growing from seed straight into the garden.

I am sure you could plant them out, with no trouble. But it seems a bit of a wasted opportunity to have them there for the best part of a year doing very little. I am growing some from seed for the first time - in pots, but the plot is currently booked for things in flower now such as Hesperis matronalis, which will go on for some time, and then be replaced by the late shift of tender perennials - Dahlias, Salvia patens and Asters etc.

I do agree with you about growing in pots first. Christopher Lloyd said that when he started he sowed directly into the bed, but later he grew everything in pots first.
