@JWK, I have just choked on my coffee reading your post.I will remember that in the future.
I'm sure most people will know the well known alternative meaning for an OBE (other b.ggers efforts). My Grandfather got 1 for his work in the Ministry of Agriculture during WW2. He was too old to sign up again (tried to and was turned down MUCH to his annoyance having fought during WW1 so considered himself an expert in all things military!). When he got his OBE he didn't think he deserved it, he felt he'd only been doing his job and unworthy in comparison to so many who had lost everything and was tempted to turn it down, however, it wasn't the "done thing" in those days. Years later I met someone who proudly told me her husband had received an OBE, big mouth me said "Oh 1 of those other b.ggers efforts gongs"...she was NOT impressed and I've never seen her again...funny that!
