    Hello All
As you probably know I am a total novice to gardening but I would like to try growing something from seed. now plz keep it really simple. I need something really easy to grow and is there anything I can start doing now? I dont have the luxury of a greenhouse just one of those little plastic lean-to things that wobble in the wind.
    Thk you
    Angie

Oi the only thing I have ever grown was the tops of carrots in saucers when I was a kid.
Something I could use I guess. Its more important that its an easy thing to grow. I only have pots in the garden so they would have to live in there if they survived. Flowers not veg. I am really clueless

:thumb: Nice one Nut.. It is a bit late for allot of seed now. Do you want flowers or veg? Do you want to sow for this year or next.? I this year you could of course sow lettuce or one of the seed Sal crop mixes so you can just pick & come again mixed sal leaves...! Radish, herbs, .. You could maybe try some carrots & beetroot.. I suppose you could still try french beans & peas as well, maybe in there they would have enough time..:)
Best idea with veg is to think about what you like then see if there is still time to sow..!;) Go to your garden centre & see what seed they have left, always worth a try I think....:thumb:

I think Flowers MF as there is only me so veg would just go to waste. I dont have my 5 a day more like 5 a year. So are there any flowers for either this year or for next year? I was looking at some seed packs yesterday but I couldnt tell if they meant sow now or plant out now ..... greener than grass huh?

:D OK then Nut you could sow Biennials, such as foxgloves, sweet williams, Canterbury bells and forget-me-nots now for next year. Maybe you could get fresh seed from people on here too. I have got fox glove seeds coming out of my ears at the moment, PM me your addi & I will post you some, plus Love-in-a-mist, they can be sown outside of course & they will come up next year so you must label the pots..!!:D You can get seed for the others at the GC. Why not try a few sal crop seeds for yourself then, if they are in pots you can sow as little or as much as you like.!:D After all it is only a few seeds per pot..!:D I think you are pretty much too late for flowers for this year now though. So look for biennial seeds if they are for next year..:) All the pkts have the sowing times on the back:)

Nut: You could try some poppy seeds, they do seem to grow really fast and you might get some flowers this year.

Nothing difficult about growing from seed, but some seeds are harder to grow than others.

It might help if you have some tips on how to grow from seed, I've added a page to my Blog describing the process in quite a lot of detail:
    sowing seeds indoors

Seeds are half price in our local garden centre at the moment. I would wander down there and have a look at what takes your fancy. The back of the seed packet will tell you when you can sow, and how easy or difficult the seeds are.

I expect you will be a bit disappointed because many of them will want to be sown in the spring. But if they are half price you may want to buy them and put them away for next year (just make sure that the "Sow before" date is OK).
