Wanted - Nice Pair Of Vintage Legs

Hi Everyone,

We are on the hunt for a pair of vintage legs for our future dining table. Ideally from an old piece of industrial machinery like the pictures below





It's a bit of a long shot but someone might have a pair lying around in their garden or could point me in the right direction.

Would arrange a courier to collect them if they fit the bill.

I've some vintage feet in fairly good condition. I'm rather attached to them though.

Yes we do need to explore that avenue when we get a chance away from the house.

I dunno about freecycle. Would someone really want to give some that big and heavy away for free when it is probably worth more as scrap metal? There's no harm in giving it a shot I guess

Don't get me wrong, if I was living on my own that's probably what I would go for but Dave (and sometimes me) are engineers at heart and do perv over old machinery. A table with an old big pair of meaty legs is something you don't see everyday. Although having said that Dave's wish would be to find the original legs that came with his lathe originally, which are not meaty at all.

Very nice but as with my reply above he doesn't like them or the price.

If you get no joy trying to find them, another approach would be to fabricate the legs yourself.
Not as hard as it seems.
Over here there are a number of small firms that specialize in laser cutting custom (one off) components (at very reasonable rates) from all sorts of materials, metals included, I am sure there are plenty more of these firms over in the UK.
Speak to one (or more) of them and ask what metals and gauge they can cut.

The original legs have loads of bends and intricate shapes but one could approximate them by having separate pieces cut then welding them together, grinding down the welds then treating and painting the metal to the required colour/finish.
(I think green hammer tone was quite popular when those lathes were originally made).

Would make for a nice project and although may not work out any cheaper, it could be done in stages and would also allow for complete freedom in the design.
Get cracking on those welding skills.
