So this morning I was checking out my pond and to my horror 3 of my 12 inch fish had been dragged out of my pond over night and had their heads chewed off!

Others were trapped in the pond netting having obviously been freaked out by some vicious beastie.

Ive been lucky as Ive avoided the dreaded mink or otters for the last 20 years but had the attacks from the local monster heron, hence the netting.

So off to the local hunting /fishing shop to get myself a mink trap for 25 quid. Ive baited it with chicken and mackerel and eagerly await its capture of the vicious beastie.

Now before everyone freaks out I got the humane trap rather than the much cheaper instant death variety.

When I catch this guy its off on a 50 mile trip to Carlisle tomorrow rather than getting an airgun pellet in its head.

12 hours till first light lets see what happens? War can be a messy business, lookout minky.

If it's an Otter you could get 6 months in jail + an unlimited fine for trapping it.

If it's a Mink and you release it elsewhere, that's another offence (think that's 6 months jail + £5,000 fine), but you'd be allowed to keep it as a pet without a licence.

I love otters....I think if I had otters visiting my garden, I'd be stocking the pond with fish just for them! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Thats what I thought too, but........theres always a but.....if you catch an otter by accident whilst trapping a legal menace to your pets/poultry etc its not illegal. Of course we cant shoot mink with an air rifle now in Scotland as its been banned.
I was told an otter wont set this trap off and if it did its so strong it will get out of the trap anyway.

This beastie didnt fancy a lift to carlisle this morning and there were no more dead fish lying around so lets seee what happens sunday morning ?
