    WARNING
This is the time of year when one goes out into the beds and starts to cut things down. Watch your eyes when you bend over the plants. I am grateful for wearing glasses and have now only a holed eyebrow rather than a poked out eye. The support canes have eye protection caps on them as one should, but the plant stems do not.
    BE CAREFUL please

Thank goodness not more serious damage its easy to focus on what your doing and not the hazard

and as an additional warning for the plants themselves, leave tidying up for another month yet - to give ongoing protection against severe frost etc.

With fuchsias I do not cut the stems back til late March early April.

Me too lisa, then pile on mulch. The fuchia was liberated from Batsford Arboretum(uncle lives there)about 12 years ago and it looks a picture in flower. In fact this year, following advice on GC,was the first time I nipped out the tips and it certainly did the trick [IMG]

In a garden this size,we have to start cutting down now or else we just do not get finished before the new growth makes it that much harder. The plants just have to take the risk of hard weather ot have last years stems tangles up in the new.

I got attacked by a pot plant when I was dusting once!

I leaned close to dust behind it and the spiky needle (it is a sperengeri fern)went right in my eye and scrathed the cornea. I was a bit bemused when the eye hospital gave me analgesic eye drops but I was glad of them the next day! I've never known such pain!

I always put my specs on when I go near it now!

This is completely off topic but I must object to Madrats Avatar. (the little photo on the left) I do not what to start political arguments Im just interested in the gardening on this forum. If it was funny it may have been expectable but to start shouting your political opinions I do not think is acceptable. Whats next religion and sexual preferences? Please no politics on here :( :(

I agree with you Liz I think they can be a mini-insight but do we have to suffer politics? I find this surreptitious way of giving political opinion offensive whether I agree with it or not.

I also think it's unfair that I should have to limit my enjoyment of this gardening site just because of other peoples strong political opinion force me into turning off the avatars function.
Looking at the rules they say ââ?¬Å?We'd like for our readers to be able to read the support forum at work and share with friends without fear of retribution.ââ?¬Â Well????
I think this Avatar is offensive and inappropriate and I understand Im not the only one to complain about it. If its not a political statement why not change it? If it is a political statement is it really appropriate for this forum?

For my two pennyworth - its an avator and unimportant - some are good, some are not so good, once seen, I don't really notice them -having moved on to more important things

This forum is remarkable free from dissension and infighting - long may it last. [IMG]

I agree with Fran and Madrat - Madrat's avatar doesn't offend me in the slightest - I think its funny, tongue in cheek humour and should be taken in that vein. The fact that it's political didn't occur to me until Lenticular made a fuss. Let's face it if everything in life is analysed then it's all political.

Madrat, Your comment ââ?¬Å?Well all I can say is if Bush gets his way we might not be able to garden in the futureââ?¬Â to Pete2255 sounds political to me.

Lizs Buda does not have a derogatory statements on it.

If you dont have the courage to admit to what you do why do it?

If however, someone showed you this and you found it funny without knowing what it implies then my apologies. Perhaps you should do some studying instead of insulting.

As for taking pills to change your mood? Ill leave that to others
