I don't like killing wasps and never do it earlier in the year when they are meat eaters helping me by scoffing pests. But these last couple of weeks their numbers have risen markedly largely due to the fallen apples in the garden and we can't enjoy a cuppa on the patio without one or two of them trying to share our drinks.
I usually make my wasp traps by cutting off the top of a plastic lemonade bottle and then jamming it into the bottle so it froms a funnel. Wasps get in but can't get out. The only problem with this trap is that the funnel also funnels in rain and the trap can get flooded.

Here's an alternative design I found on the Web. You drill a couple of holes about 1/2 inch or 15mm diameter HALF WAY through a plastic pipe and then insert the pipe through the sides of the bottle so that the holes are downwards. Wasps crawl into the tube, enter through the holes and can't get out. Lid on bottle keeps rain out.

For bait we're using a 50% honey-water solution with a pinch of yeast added. It works very well.

It had only been in-situ on the patio for 24 hours Pal'.
I've a couple more beside our two worm bins into which we've been dumping some of the fallen apples and they are inches deep in ex-wasps:D

We recently bought a Waspinator cos me dad heard someone raving about them on the radio. Can't say I'd recommend them. Anyone else bought one?
