Would anyone know the best place to get a used food storage container (such as those used for olives) that I could use as a water butt?

Personally I would look on eBay. I see the blue barells [which i think are used for fruit juice] on there quite often, plus IBCs [1 meter cube tanks that fit on pallets and thus will hold 1,000 Litres - but make sure you get one made out of a dark material, otherwise it will grow algae; probably not much use attached to a downpipe, better filled from a hose or somesuch].

In case you are not familiar with it there is an "Advanced Search" function on eBay and in the "Items near me" section you can put your postcode in, and the distance you are prepared to travel to pick one up, to limit the search results.
