We brought from the supermarket the other week one of those bags of Watercress as we know the plant contains lots of good vitamins that the body needs.:D After the bag was opened and some of the cress eaten we noticed it started to go past it's best quiet quickly after the air got to it{we believe they fill the bags with some sort of gas to keep the produce fresh}

Anyway,I sorted through what was left and have managed to root some pieces in small bottles of water and have got two reasonable plants potted on into an ice cream container which i am keeping constantly wet as i know this stuff usually grows in wet conditions.

Has anyone any ideas as to the best way of growing these plants as we don't have a pond or stream with running water which they normally grow in so was wonderering what the chances are of keeping them so they get big enough to harvest.

We have seen that chap on the telly who has large areas of flat type ponds with running water and the food that they need to have to enable them to grow but it would be nice to be able to get some to grow for free so to speak as the bags are so expensive to buy in the shops and never keeps fresh for more than a day or so

Thanks :)

I would also be interested since we are not that familiar with it in Italy but as you said it is full of nutrients (although it does taste a little like polystyrene).

I grow mine in a 6 inch pot that stands in a bowl of water so that the flowerpot is half submerged.

Its only small at the moment, waiting for the days to lengthen or the mrs to remember to open the curtains before she goes to work.

I've usually just thrown some in my pond and it just roots and grows like crazy, never bothered to harvest it though.
I'm guessing it would grow in any container thats kept constantly moist.

Miraflores, stop eating polystyrene, it wont do you any good.
Try rice cakes. :loll:
