I have a funny feeling this could be a hot summer, my goodness we deserve one.

Is it possible to grow Water Melons in a greenhouse in the South of England?? hot summer or not!

    Thanks

    Yes, it's possible.

Get your hands on the Marshalls seed catalogue, or try premier seeds direct on ebay.

    Good luck

Just my thoughts but I dont think growing watermelons is all that easy in the UK.
I have tried years ago, may be there are new colder hardy strains around now but the problem I always found was that the growing season is not long enough or hot enough.

I can remember T&M selling various varieties so called suitable for UK growing some of which I tried without much luck.

In general the plants get very big similar to a pumpkin, and need a pretty large greenhouse, and sunny conditions.

The ones I can see in the Marshalls link David are not water melons, they are the smaller cantaloupe types I think, which are a different proposition and a lot smaller.

Dont let me put you off though, nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.:D:)

"forgot the link that looks like its not going to work anyway"

David G if you can find the product again, on Marshalls site, then near the buy button is their product code and description of the product - something like:

    1010-1156 Ageratum Blue Danube Seeds

and then, having found the product code "1010-1156", that can just be put into the Search Phrase thingie ... so if you can find that we should all be able to find it too!!!

I quite fancy a go at Watermelons ...

Just reading in the Feb RHS Journal, seems there is a watermelon variety called "Rosario" recently been intoduced to the UK from Eastern Europe, which is supposed to do well over here.

Doesn't seem to say what company is selling it though.
