I want to lay hose around the garden borders. I spend too much summer time watering rather than real gardening or enjoying the garden. So, which in your opinion is best - soaker hose or sprinkler hose ?

I am going to have a problem with water pressure though. There's no way it will manage to sprinkle/soak all the way round the garden in one go. So I'm thinking about laying plain hose half way round and linking in 3 separate sections of soaker/sprinkler, which I can turn on/off either manually or by timer.

Below is my highly detailed plan to scale. Green inner line shows the border edge, X marks the tap, blue is ordinary hose, red is soaker/sprinkler which is in 3 sections.

Has anyone got anything similar installed? Any tips?

Just what I'm planning to do, OB! I have cheap hose pipe and soaker hose (bargain off Ebay!!) and some connectors. My plan is to make a hybrid hose with bits of soaker where they are going to be most useful, i.e., not around the established shrubs!! I have a 4way adaptor so I can run two or three lengths of the hybrid hose into different parts of the garden.

Then I can simply open the stopcock in my kitchen and bob's yer uncle! One garden watered!

I have two outside taps - one in the front and one in the back. This plan is for the back. For the front I'm doing much the same with a two way adaptor - one to the planters and the other to the borders. This one has it's own interior stopcock as well so easy peasy!!

Thanks - I just looked it up on ebay - much cheaper! I think I'll have some of that [IMG]

Just thinking out loud now... I like the idea of using the 4 tap option - not realisic from the main tap as there would be too much hose wasted and they'd be all over the patio, but I could set it up further down the garden, perhaps where I've put the second red hose. So the first tap would be to the first soaker hose going in the opposite direction, the second would be one soaker hose to the rest (hopefully enough pressure to do that), a third could connect to the greenhouse (which is on that short side but suspiciously missing from my CAD-like drawing), and he fouth can be spare, possibly for a hand held hose if it was needed.
