Popped into our local Aldi store today and when we come out we walked across the car park and noticed a flock of birds (15 or so) feeding on Pyracantha berries just a couple of feet off the ground and going about their business while people walked within feet of them; they were stunning Waxwings and I got to see them at very close range, just a shame I had no camera on me.

First time I've seen them this winter, interestingly a similar number of birds were feeding in a rowan tree across the road from Aldi last winter, wonder if its possible they could be the same birds??:)

Just back from Northwich in Cheshire visiting the parents and whilst having a walk through the town I saw some more Waxwings; a 30+ strong flock of them stripping the berries from a single large cotoneaster tree in the middle of the main shopping precinct!! and most people were completely oblivious as to what stunning birds were just above their heads as they walked by ..:)

Well I'm seeing more Waxwings than ever this winter; the flock in our town is back and has taken up residence in the same tree on Aldi's car park and feeding on the same pyracantha bushes just a couple of feet off the ground offering excellent views. They've been there for a few days now and their numbers have increased to 30+....fantastic :dbgrtmb:

we saw one for the first time last month, neither my mum nor i could believe our eyes :hate-shocked: such an incredibly stunning looking bird, kinda oriental looking or something! they just look out of place here at any rate lol. he seemed to be on his own though which is odd as apparently they're most often seen in flocks...although for all we knew perhaps the rest where close by, just out of view. i did get a few pics but they're not the best as he was up in the tree tops most of the time :)
