I know the jokes are going to fly with this one but it's a serious issue here on the island!

It's not just about taxing householders but the wider issues. £50 is a lot of money for someone living on their own, at the other end of the scale companies with a large work force are going to be charged the same amount, it's ridiculous!

That's made me think Zigs. People here that had their septic tanks emptied free of charge will have to pay the £50 too.

Well it is not too bad, IF they make sure every house has a supply of toilet paper if the boat can not get in to port in the winter
Mind looking at the pic they are a bit short themselves at the moment

Yeah, but they'll still charge her whether or not she uses the main sewers just as they charge for rain water falling off your roof and going into "their" drains!!!:dunno::coffee: :ideaIPB: But we can ease Sheal's costs, Ziggy, by sending her those Containers sitting in the port.:heehee:

I think everyone on the mainland pays a sewerage charge  - except for those of us that have to recycle our own!

So a free payment that has been made to them is reduced so they charge the customers more rather than look at other ways of raising funds or being creative? S'pose anything is fine as long as the business doesn't have to cough for it. Charming.

I can't find the detail at the moment, but if I remember correctly it is based on how much water is metered in - the assumption is that if you have 300 cubic metres of water in, then there will be 300 cubic metres of waste water, and I am pretty sure that the waste water charge is higher per cubic metre than it is for the clean water coming in.

The sewage rate is based on the metered amount (don't know the how the calculation is worked out) but if you're not metered then it's based on rateable value.

Up until 1977 even properties on cesspools had to pay the sewerage rate!! A court case put a stop to that. :blue thumb: (It wasn't me that time! :heehee:)

Just managed to find my tariff - its 99p per cubic metre for clean water in, and 70p per cubic metre out, but as the outgoing figure is simply based on the incoming figure, they may as well say its £1.69 per cubic metre supplied

I think they calculate the charge for water coming off your roof by the square feet/metre area of the roof.:dunno::snork:

I think I'd better point out that we still use a rates system here, no council tax. The rate system covers everything from household rate to water and sewage, also the local parish rate. It all comes under, well did come under, the one total rate. So in effect we're already paying a sewage rate and now they want to tax it as well!
