And as a lover of ecclesiastical architecture I had to go and see the Cathedral.

Beautiful and inspriring. I'm not a Christian, but beautiful churches and cathedrals always leave me spellbound...especially when you think that this cathedral and others like it were built only with hard work and men piling stones they had cut themselves, one on top of each other. Sometimes for hundreds of years.

So why, oh why in this age of technological advance and with all the building tools we have available are so many modern public buildings complete and total rubbish?

    Hi SG

Mrs Flinty and I went to Salisbury last Thursday to see an exhibition in The Close and although I've seen the cathedral many times over the years, it was particularly impressive on a beautiful bright day. And that was despite having scaffolding all over one end!

Next time you visit Salisbury cathedral, may I suggest you spare some time to look round The Close which has some outstanding old buidings and some really interesting museums too.

I am just down the road from Salisbury and it is a lovely place. The catherdral is quite breath taking, the largest spire in Europe infact.

If you do like Cathedrals I would recommend Winchester which has some amazing aspects, alo Wells which has very unusual arches which are upside-down!

Cheers Muddy, yes I love ecclesiastical architecture. Been to Salisbury, didn't go in though, just walked around (we went on the motorbikes and it was a hot, hot day).

Love Chichester Cathedral - the only one you can see from the sea and its free to go in and wander around. In-laws live in Chichester and the city is one of my favourite parts of West Sussex.
