I've still not lifted my onions, the leaf tips are just starting to discolour, and the tops are now starting to bend over.
I'm now panicking as the weather is so awful. It's been raining constantly and is forcast to continue for the rest of the week.
The ground is so saturated, I'm beginning to wonder if they'll store well (if i ever manage to pull them).

Has anyone got the same concerns?
Also, should I just pull them now, or wait and hope that we get a few dry days soon? GF.

As Corporal Jones used to say - don't panic!

You've still got some lee way. If you lift them too early, their necks may not dry off properly and they won't store well.

I reckon you've got another couple of weeks at least. If some of their stems have toppled over naturally, you can start to bend the necks over on the remaining onions. But if some still look like they're growing actively, you can leave those a bit longer. You'll then have to judge when to lift them and that's going to depend on your local weather.

Some years, I got away with leaving mine in the ground (with their stems turned down) during repeated wet spells and in other years, I got a bit of rot in the last ones.

It's important, though, to ripen them off fully once you've lifted them and if the weather is unpredictable, spread them out under cloches or in the greenhouse or conservatory, keeping them off the ground if possible.

I've heard that it can be a good idea to store your onions inside ladies stockings. The unfortunate thing is, my wife doesn't wear stockings so I can't put that one to the test ;)

Anyone had any luck with this method?

No, not seen your wife in stockings either.

But yes, a great way to store onions!
