"M" enquired as to the flowers I'm growing for my wedding on august 28th, so thought I would start a little diary of it for anyone interested.
My colour scheme is going to be mixed with plenty of green for balance- not too much pink or white! I'm thinking I might have to buy in a few chrysanths (hard to time right/grow for cutting?) but everything else will be home grown. The list to begin with is...
Zinnia (mainly lime green and pale yellow giants)
Scabious (including the amazing black cat)
    Gypsophila
Hopefully a range of roses including golden showers, blue moon and iceberg.
    Astrantia in deep red
Various decorative, ball and pom pom dahlias as they thrive in my garden.
Fingers crossed hollyhocks, delphiniums and foxgloves if they don't flower too early.
    Dark sunflowers and rudbeckia
    Asters
    Hydrangea annabelle
Tall phlox in pale pink, white and lilac.
    Cornflowers- blue and "black"
    Nigella- blue and white.
    Godetia (if tall enough)
    Sweet peas!

I've probably forgotten something. For foilage I'll just choose what I fancy from here, avoiding euphorbia. Not decided how I'll do the bouquets but got a couple of books. Vases I just want a mix of sizes all clear.
Feel free to add plant ideas or hints and tips, I'll post some pictures of my Russian seed haul tomorrow, and will hopefully start sowing/potting up on Sunday.

I knew I'd forgotten something! Cosmos in white and a Seashell one too- seeds are their way. We had 4 lilac cosmos flowering from May to the frosts here, love them.
I have achillea cassis too, hadn't thought of using that thank you.
I thought that about gypsoplia so got 3 plants for £1 from pound land.

              Great thread!

Hope you have better luck than I had (but I only bought one and nothing grew :frown: )

I think it's a wonderful idea to grow your own wedding flowers (and very romantic!)

Yes! Got a few of those which I divided last spring. Love them, including the leaves! Thanks for the comments all. Sorted through the seed swap package tonight and got a few bits and bobs.

Here's an update in the form of my seed choices (added a couple more since) and some photos of where we are getting married.
Been preparing some beds for direct sowing next month, sowed some cornflowers in the greenhouse but they damped off- too early.
Got sweet peas sown in pots though and a few other bits in my propagator.

                        Thanks all.:spinning::hapfeet::blue thumb:
Yes, I have some self seeded nigella in the garden already. I'm going to scatter some more out there as soon as the soils warms a bit. I think staggered sowings of everything from March to May should ensure I have enough flowers for end of August.
Another good thing is our wedding is the 28th August, (so will cut flowers 27th) but the party isn't til 5th September (more local) so many more flowers should have appeared by then. :fingers crossed:

I was watching Kirsties Vintage Home the other day and it was a wedding one - they made the most gorgeous table settings by taping oasis to candelabras and then filling with flowers.
Obviously not a task you want to be doing the day before ... but possibly a couple of days before would still be good.
I'm not getting married but I think I'm going to look in charity shops for some candelabras anyway for summer bbq table decs.

Thanks @"M" , I'll try to check that out on iplayer.
Just to update, I have done a lot of weeding and breaking down the soil for some direct sowing and have a few things on the go in the house.
Cosmos purity, delphinium avatar and bluebird and pom Pom dahlias (though I'll only use the White or purple ones).
Cornflowers and sweet peas are germinating in the greenhouse, and I've planted out/potted up the roses waltztime, blue for you and blue moon.
