    Hello, hope someone can help.

I have just become interested in growing my own veg, and am already learning from mistakes made, and planning for next year. I work full time and have a small child, and so I like things to be as simple as possible.

I only have 1 bed in my garden and it is completed infested with weeds, and is shadowed by the neighbours cherry blossom tree. Next year I have decided to grow all my veg in pots instead.

Which leaves me with a dilemma of what to do with the bed, as I don't want it to just go to pot and become an eyesore.

Funds limited, so please don't suggest extensive landscaping!!

Hi Twinkle & [IMG].. You don't say how big the bed is but if it was me & I wasn't going to grow veg in it then I would dig it all over & get out all the weeds.. You never know your luck, there may be plants in there as well..!! Then I would plant it up as a shady border & have a mix of plants yhat like those conditions.. Doo you have friends who have gardens, they may have spare plants they could give you if they knew you were looking.. Otherwise I would go for Hardy Geraniums lovely clump forming & flowering now.. Ferns are always good in shady areas.. Bergenias.. Heucheras.. You could plant spring bulbs in Sept / Oct time.. Hostas.. Oh & a real little beauty, Pink Sky Rocket.. You can Google these plants & see what you think.. Then you can maybe decide what you like or don't as the case may be.. There are lots of other plants too & you wouldn't be buying them all at once... So have a think about what you would like there..:thumb:

Old fashioned forget-me-nots come back year after year and spread every where. Children can pick as many as they like and wander around without doing any harm. Mine lasted from about March - May and the whole flower bed was nearly covered!
