For the first time in aeons, I decided to do some gardening today! Mostly to clear back the multitude of suckers from my raspberries. Up the corner was a totally new plant (new to my garden, that is) and it had taken over about 6sq ft, very dense and with bases that looked like star fish. It also runs like strawberries, one pink off shoot taking root about a foot from the parent plant and so on. It wasn't rooted very deeply so appeared easy enough to pull up.

But I was wondering what it was and if it poses any threat in terms of being a thug in the garden.

Could be creeping buttercup. It prefers moist ground, was it in a wetter part of the garden?

      Smells a lot, but harmless.

Sorry Ziggy we posted at same time...choosing the link you beat me to it!

Daisies ..thanks for new pic...you can even see the flower. Def Herb Robert.

          It will love fertile soil!

I really hate the smell of it.
I have found one plant almost 18" across..it sprawls across the top of the ground.
The trick is to follow the plant right back to the middle and gently pull.
But never found it a problem to weed out.
The problem lies in that it seeds around!
