    I should know this, but brain dead with the cold out there.

    The flower heads look as if they are covered in hairs.

      It should accept up to about 5MB.
      Are you using the 'Upload a File' button, then choosing the photo file and clicking 'upload full image'?

          That crossed my mind @BobTG … but the photo isn’t really clear enough to be sure … I’d like to see a focussed pic of the growing tip with buds.

          It looks about to flower. Centaurea is one of the few flowers I now know the name of as it has spread quite a bit in our garden, all from one seed head I obtained. from the picture it looks like it is at the same stage as ours, but the leaves are much smaller. It will be interesting if you can ID it from the bud @Dovefromabove

          Hesperis is a definite possibility as it is present in close by gardens.
