Weed

    I have got these popping up on my vegetable plot. The photo shows them in development stages ( when I saw the one on the left the first time sticking out of the ground, I thought it was a rat's tail :oops:)
    They look like little pine trees ( the cat got the one on the right when I was getting my camera).
    I can't get to their roots at the moment, I think they are going to be a problem.

    Yes - horsetails. They are a real problem, their roots go very deep.

    Thanks , at the present time I can only pull the bit I can see. I think I will have to learn to live with them but pulling their tails makes me feel better!

    Might be an idea to look at the Pests, Diseases and Cures section of the site and check the "Horses Tail" thread.:wink:

    Whatever you do - don't put them in your compost!!!!!!

    Thanks. I won't put them in the compost. I have had a look at the pest section but if the only option is dousing everywhere with weed killer, I'll just learn to live with them.:)
