An easy question I guess but can you tell me whether or not I can stop weeds coming through an area if I lay tree bark down?
If not, what would be my best option? (to avoid constant weeding)

Hi Harleydee. Welcome to GC. Bark chippings act as a mulch and will slow weeds down but you do need to lay them a few inches thick. At least 3" pref. 5". just scattering a few bits of bark around wont work. Gravel does the same but is a lot more expensive.

tree bark laid thick will work up to a point but the more vigorous weeds (thistle, buttercup, couch grass, etc) will carry on regardless.

I find it really helps and I only use about 2 inches if that.

Hi Harleydee welcome to the forum.

Sadly no matter what you use you will always have some weeding to do but bark chippings will help somewhat and it does look much nicer than bare spaces of soil a least I think so.Hel.xxx.

Reminds me of the stadium where I was working. We had a rose bed near the car park that was full of couch grass. We dug it, the grass came back, we weed killed it (selective), the grasss came back, we weed killed it again, the grass came back. Eventually we had a bed of dead roses and lots of healthy couch grass!
Fortunately in my own garden I can use the slower but less destructive (to the garden) method of digging it up where ever I see it.

TLA. What weed-killer did you use? I've found that Roundup or Glyphosate are effective against this. Just have to keep it off the plants.

Roundup followed by Casron G. I think that the bed was very thick with grass roots though. Infact if you dug down you just got a lump of root instead of soil.
