    Hi all,

I have 3 of these gorgeous weigela Monet. 2 out of the three have started to go really brown around the outside leaves and one of these looks as if the actual plant itself is dead, little branches look dried out although watered regularly.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated. Would hate to lose them :(

You can tell if your plant is dead by using your thumb nail and s****ing some bark away at the base. If its brown its dead, if green or white, then its alive.

Sounds a lot like a watering problem to me, either too much or too little - unless the problem was there at purchase if that was recent.

Are they growing in the ground or containers? If containers, I would tip them out, and see what is happening at the roots.

Paula I agree with Fran could well be a water problem too much or lack of.

My Weigela which I brought only this year is doing really well in my part-shaded border on the front garden and I'm really pleased with it, hope you are able to save your plants.

At the moment they are in sun in the mornings, d'ya think perhaps the leaves are burning? But then what do i know

To move or not to move that is the question, whether it is.......

Just leave them be for now. Weigelias like sun, or partial shade - and no the leaves aren't burning unless your watering overhead at midday :D .

If they are newly planted i.e. this summer (if it can be caled that) water once a week unless it rains - otherwise ignore them, and let their roots get established.

If they are not newly planted, i.e. last year or before, then after the first decent rain it may be worth lifting one and seeing what is happening at the root.

I hope they pick up - let us know how they do eh. The test will be if they bud up and flower next spring.

    Fran,

Now i am getting the use of my arm back i have taken over doing a lot of the gardening again :D boy did it pain me to relinquish control of my beloved garden over to the lads.

The Monet's are picking up it would seem, but with the bit of rain we have had it's too soon to tell.

I eagerly look forward to them budding up [IMG]
