Does anyone know when the best time is for cutting down these type of shrubs. I don't mind the width of them but they are getting to high

Ive had to hack off a few branches today because they were starting to block off the path. Will see how it goes. Usually I prune back in the spring before everything starts to bud.

Pruning of Wegelias is normally done after flowering. You can cut some branches right back to the ground if you need to.

And you can usually prune the taller stems to a (much) lower bud without spoiling the shape at any time of year. Might lose a few flowers at the top next year, but hell, they have enough anyway.
