Can anyone tell me why our weigela is just a mass of green foliage this year with hardly any flowers. We trimmed it back hard in the autumn after the second flowering- perhaps this was wrong. If so, when is the right time to trim?

It's better to prune them just after flowering. They form their flower buds on summer growth, so if you prune in Autumn you won't have many flowers in the spring. Do any hard pruning just after first flowering then if you get a second lot of flowers just trim off the flower heads.
