    Ladies and jellyspoons.

I need help. I need to lose weight. Somehow between summer and now i've managed to go up 2 dress sizes and i'm getting really rather depressed about the whole thing. I want to be healthy too!

As of this evening i really want to form a structured weight loss program for myself and would love the support, perhaps via this thread!

I know there are lots of dedicated weight loss forums out there, but i adore you lot, and most of you know my attitude and my background, i would much prefer sharing my experiences and ups and downs with you lot instead of others!

Here is my rough plan, using daily varied exercise lasting between 20 minutes and 50 minutes depending on the action, portioning controls, and specific diets i hope to go from 10 stone and 9 pounds to 9 stone. I know this will be no overnight feat, but i would love to see a difference in my body and health by the new year!

If i kept a blog on here of my progress, i know i will be able to keep it up with the support of my friends on here.

How do people feel about this?

Whiley, one of the best ways of exercising while dieting is gardening, especially digging. But don`t overdo it, remember, everything in moderation.

Hi Whiley, don't do more than 30mins continuous exercise at a time, make it fun and make it achieveable i.e as part of your day.

Anything can make a piece of gym equipment, the bottom step for example can be used as a stepper.

Measure yourself regularly but not so as to become obsessive, once a week is enough as your weight will fluctuate.

Try to reduce the fat in your diet, as not only do you want to lose weight but also tighten the wobbly areas that you might have ?

Also when you exercise make sure you support your bits and bobs, moreso bobs in your case. We may laugh but continuous bouncing will take its toll on sensitive areas.

Any help you need don't hesitate to ask. We had a thread earlier this year which was pretty successful, although you look great already so anythings is a bonus. ;) [IMG]

    Whiley,

I was in the same position thanks to the sandwich fest but we wont talk about that [IMG]

I must admit i do a lot of walking but before I was up and out again I found the following really good:

    30 mins Cardio work

    20 mins toning.

This is easy to stick to as it isn't too long and done on a daily basis it really helps.

Eat low GI foods, they fill you up for longer, no nagging hunger pangs. Eat nothing with more than 5g fat.

If you like i can pm you loads of recipes that are tasty, filling and natural :D

I also would like to lose a few pounds, well several actually, but having arthritic knees running up and down stairs or even walking a lot is difficult. Anybody got any suggestions apart from not eating

Exercise will keep you fit. if you exercise to lose weight you will knacker yourself, cause to burn off enough energy to burn the pounds....
Basically you need to cut the calories. Think of where you might be eating too much ( I don't do subtle notice [IMG] )It might be something simple. A few years ago I was told by the nurse at the Well Man clinic that she felt it would be ideal if I could lose 12lbs. So I went out and lost 1 stone and 3/4. I quite simply stopped eating snacks in the evening. If I feel a bit peckish I eat an apple. After my heart op i just cut out fat almost altogether. Chips only rarely. Nothing fried, grilled instead. Lots of fruit and veg, no butter, cheese rarely. After a while its very easy to get used to it, to wean yourself off sugar if you eating too much sugar. we have a sugar rich diet. Don't put sugar in tea or coffee, now I can't stand it.
I work to keep my weight in the ideal band. I have had a bypass and I am going do my best to put off having another. To me calories mean fat and further heart trouble possibly.
Exercise is vital but there is no way of avoiding the fact that to lose the weight you have to stop taking in the calories.....oh and alcohol is full of them so that special treats only.

Whiley. Everything geoff says is, of course, correct. I had this problem when I hit 40. I was in a very active job so the excercise thing wasn't relevant. I started food-combining (AKA the Hayes diet) and it has worked for me. I weigh less now than I did at my Boxing weight when I was 18. I think it just makes you aware of what you're sticking in your mouth.(Don't bother, BM) :D

I agree with geof, In addition a lot also depends on how active you are.

i have a fairly high fat high alchol diet but am kept in shape due to the physical nature of the job and a lot of hill walking.

One thing I do tend to avoid is snacks, I usually eat two big meals a day (ocasionally three) I also try to avoid any buiscuit or cakes with my coffe.
