Thankyou Blackthorn yes from growing up as a child was always told 1st march is first day of spring and then when the clocks change which wont be long 1st day of Summer.

Same as Francis can celebrate any day and yes birds and plants can tell.

When I was young it was 21st March first day of spring, 21 June first day of summer, 21st September first day of autumn and 21st December first day of winter.
Nowdays its all changed and we use the 1st of the months, now thats OK with me, I just wish someone would tell the weather. :D

I agree with you, pete, on the 21st theory.

But for heaven's sake who can say? The seasons seem to come and go as and when they feel like it.

As an example, we should be cool and very wet here at the moment ... what are we? Dry and 20 degrees every day ... this is NOT normal for us.

In saying that, we light a log fire virtually every night because I think we have become Portuguese and we feel VERY cold when the sun goes down and we live in an old house.

Whatever the date it is spring - well nearly. Leaves are opening, daffs are opening, Now all we need after the unseasonal warmth of the winter, is a bitterly cold spring. I don't think I wish to think of that.
