Could be he didn't want to do it so placed his price high so you would decline. It has happened before. :ideaIPB: Cheers, Tony.

Yes that is a good idea, I used that site to find groundworkers for my extension. I'm local to you goosegog and think that quote is over the top even for Surrey! You should be able to get a skilled trademan for that sort of money, my bricklayer was £160/day, labourers should be half of that. How about looking in the Parish Magazine or Post Office window in case a local lad is advertising?

Goose, do you visit your local often ie are you known, are you a member of a club, or church ? I do not wish to know the answers

Just talk and let it be known what you want done or help with
I mean putting the Yacht in the water each year and lifting her out costs about £200 a throw with the crane, but we just get together, and all turn up on that day, all hands to the pumps
Or in the local pub, a friend knows a friend, or a friend has hired a digger for a day and only needs it for half the day
Or the young men in the football team, all rally round to help dig this older guys garden out for him

All this I have done, and so far it has only cost me a Liver and one kidney, so I take more water with it now :-)

What I am saying is ask about your friends and aquaintances

There's two men round here that advertise as doing anything who charge £75 per day. They're quite popular and have been going for years. I've found them OK for odd jobs but they're useless at anything requiring skill. Whereas, the person I use for more skillful jobs charges £150 per day - but you get a good day's work for that.
