Well rotted horse manure

    Yes, it's one of those newbie qs! Does this mean get fresh manure, stick it in a heap and it will rot down? How long do you have to leave it?
    I have access to fresh manure and I've just started a two bin compost system, the open wooden type, so one will be empty for a while so I thought I could use it for manure.

    You will need to compost fresh manure for at least 6 months before using it, provided it heats up nicely. If your pile isn't getting up to temperature it can take much longer. It's ready when you can't recognise any of the constituents.
