Cor, I love steam fairs Ziggy with the smell of the coal, oil and steam. Was this on today? You had much better weather than us if so.

It was cute, they were introduced to this country i think in edwardian times, seen a few in the wild, near the coasts.

It was on yesterday and today John, wash out today, theres been a steady rumble past the house as they're off home.

I love them too, if you get the chance to get down the great dorset steam fair then do it. That has a field of each type of stuff, its huge.

I've been to the Great Dorset Steam fair Ziggy, it was massive as you say. I had great fun but the rest of my family don't share my enthusiasm so it's rare I get to one these days.

Hmm, sounds like we need to make a cunning plan John.

This is a model of the number 26 bus I used to catch from the Royal Hotel in Stoughton into Guildford bus station when I was younger.

Its been conserved and does the rounds of the Steam Fairs.

Only caught up with it once & I think that was at the Girt Dorset fair.

Great pics, Ziggy!!:D One of my neighbours has one of the first Foden trucks manufactured. It's been maintained lovingly and is in showroom condition so he takes it to shows and wows the Public, does seem strange though to see it trundling along the road.:yess:

            Blimey,

Was that the start of Framptons Removals ?

They used to have a Girt wearhouse at Farncombe, big company.

I used to be a member of the Guildford Model Engineering Society & nearly built a 3 1/2" guage steam loco.

I'd never heard of Pimms or Framptons, don't know if they still exist Ziggy, they were before even my time :)

I've been to the open days at the model engineering club here, they have 2 or 3 permanent tracks set up at the end of Stoke Park. How can you 'nearly' build a 3 1/2" loco? Did you only get to 3 1/4" ?

The boiler was finished, i'd built the chassis, gearing, gear leaver, buffers, pump to fit in the side tank, super heater that sits in the main pipes from the firebox to the smoke box, all just needed putting together & finishing off really, then we left school, had no access to engineering stuff, my mate took it all with the promise of finishing it & I never saw him again until a few months ago when he appeared on facebook.

He won't talk to me though, probably as we'd be looking at £5k for the finished train:DOH:
