I'd spray the tree with provado and let them go bother someone else [IMG]

The hairs on caterpillars are to help protect them from birds but can be irritating and cause skin problems for us human beings, such as the Oak Processionary caterpillars

The ones who left the main group seem to have clumped together, for the night I presume, it has gone cooler, I have provado, but, I don`t want to kill them if they are not going to cause me any problems, if I am going for mass slaughter still favouring the flame thrower as the "cleanest" method. upload_2017-5-6_18-19-8.jpeg upload_2017-5-6_18-19-8.jpeg

Well I think they are one of the tent caterpillars, they look like Californican but trying to find out if they get here or an equivalent..

You know if you have a big tank or the like why not scoop them up for now and contain them.. I have no idea but you certainly don't want them to decimate your tree/trees as that many certainly will... I will keep looking.. They are the wrong colour for a Ermine moths..

No big tank, not as I would like to scoop and contain anything anyway.

Googled tent caterpillar, reads like they are not good for my apple, and it is loaded with blossom this year, by dark I will either provado or flamethrow I think, can see nothing to suggest it is a dwindling species.

No it seems any tent caterpillar is a very unwelcome guest.. Check the label on provado as I don't think you should use it if you are going to eat the fruit.. I use a mix of Neem oil and horticultural soap with garlic thrown in for extra measure and found that to be very successful..
