What are these on my bean roots?

    My french beans have about finished and I pulled them up only to find small 'beads' attached to the roots of some of the plants. I don't think it is eelworm as the beads are amongst the roots rather than part of the root.
    Any ideas please?

    They are Nitrogen fixing nodules.

    Dig them back into the soil- the nitrogen will then be available for the next plant to use. .

    Melinda is correct, beans & peas belong to the Legume family which can fix the Nitrogen in the air, effectively making fertilizer for your next crop.

    Wow thanks. I knew that they were a useful crop, but I didn't expect to see the evidence.
