    Hi,

I wondered of you can offer some advice on our lawn. We have come across some lawn pests which appear to be black type slugs with white undersides?
There have also been some evidence of crane flys on the lawn.

Are these black slug like pests leather jackets? Or they just garden slugs? (See attached photo)

I assume these pests are damaging to the lawn? Any advice on treatment

Hello HY and welcome to GC:) The black pests are slugs. They don't really do damage to a lawn but are probably on their way to decimate some choice plants in nearby beds! Depending on how you feel about using chemicals, either pellets (based on methiocarb or Ferramol brand) or beer traps are your best options for tackling them. The first two are reputed to be less harmful to pets and wildlife than the more widely-available metaldehyde.
