i was just looking at the lovely pics of the horses on another thread and i thought, i love those pics but.....

if they were anywhere near me, well it wouldn't be through choice, i would have been well away!

why - cos i don't like horses. i would never hurt them or any other, but i am s***t scared of them. and cows, sheep, goats probably loads more i can't think of just now. Why is that? I haven't had a bad experience with any of them.

i remember two things - which may or not sound funny now, they weren't at the time i can assure you! but once went on a picnic with future sister-in-law, at local fields. saw cows coming from next field. Panicked! i have never moved so fast even though i was a kid. the trolley basket we had, you know - old people use them to take their shopping around - in those days it was easy to move stuff for a picnic, well it flew above the ground. my s.i.l. was telling me to calm down, but she did follow me.

the other time was years later, years ago now!
Out in the New Forest, lots of horses around but not near me i thought. we were there bird watching.
so we are at this place and i had a fit cos this horse (wild you know :D ) came close. well after telling me to stop it, don't be stupid etc and then **********, i eventually fell backwards into a bush, my ex frightened it off with a stick. i don't think he had ever/ or would be frightened of a horse. it was just me!

saying the above though, bet you know of people that are scared of insects, - see little things. it's not the size is it?

i can watch (if i have to) a horror movie. no sweat. put me in a field with cows or horses and i'll beg to be let out!

come on then all, tell us what you are frightened of.

    cheers

Goodness, i still remember it now.

I am terrified of spiders and bee`s if there`s a spider in the house and hubby`s not around i have to throw something over it till he come`s home to remove it . A few years ago i was sitting watching tv , my arm was itching , i started scratching it , looked down and saw this leg wriggling out under the sleeve of my top , i went ballistic my top was off in seconds (hubby said he wishes he had that effect on me :D ) i was running around screaming brushing my self off . I can`t kill a spider or a bee, the thought of them crunching sends shivers through me . When i worked in a hairdressing salon we had lots of bee`s in the summer , many a customer was left sitting there while i ran around screaming with the bee following me, no one took any notice they were so used to it

Oh Sandra such a shame you are afraid of horses I have adored them since being a little child..when Bob and I went to the New Forest earlier this year it was me doing the chasing not the ponies. :D

I'm pretty lucky as I'm not really frighten of anything although saying that those flying ants in summer really scared the hell of of me as I didn't know what was going on..... I was running around the garden like a loonie!

[IMG] Can't think of anything that really frightens me here from the animal or insect kingdom.... But if in the USA it is rattle snakes & poisonous spiders!!! Have nearly trodden on a timber rattler & have been bitten by a Wolf spider out there & that was very painful!!!! Got taken to emergency for a shot but was fine after a couple of days.. So, American Snakes & spiders are what I am frightened of...!!!!!!!! :D

Depends on whether it affects your life or whether you are just content to leave it as it is. Lots of people have irrational fears. My best friend freaks out at the sight of spiders, I knew a girl who fainted if a pigeon just landed in front of her. My wife gets terrified if moths or butterflies flutter around in the house, but outside its OK, elder son its spiders and big bumblebees. I am not so easily scared I suppose and I tend to face my fears. I am scared of heights but love hill or mountain walking. I do remember doing one move where I had to reach across with my foot on to a snowy ledge with a 1000 foot drop below. I learnt later that everyone in my party was scared but it was exhillerating afterwards. However I have come across people who just freeze in such a situation.
If it really worries you then it is worth talking to a doctor. When I had a Pets as Therapy dog I came across two people who were abswolutely petrified of dogs and that was affecting their enjoyment of life. Doctors can make use of PAT dogs to overcome that fear by gradual introduction to a known friendly dog. Whether something similar could be done with horses I don't know. Cattle are a different matter. Cows can be incredibly curious, cows with young calves are dangerous and bullocks just plain stupid. They are heavy and clumsy and can quite easily knock you over without intending to. I have ended up in the middle of a herd of 3/4 grown bullocks that were excited and jumping, throwing out their legs. It was a bit nerve racking and I did not hang about. Even farmers treat cattle with respect. Some horses can be a nuisance but most are friendly and inquisitive.

[IMG] I think allot of our fears about farm animals stem from that very fact Geoff. The very inquisitive nature most of them have about us!!!! :D I do sympathise with anyone who can't walk through a field of them though, as allot of them are bigger than us!!!

[IMG] Strongy you will have a great time.. Walking it is great, but do try & take a Helicopter flight over it as well... It is even more breathtaking & awsome from up there... :D
Do be careful of the spiders.. Make sure your legs are covered, or at least below the knee... This is a pretty informative site..

[IMG] As for your snakes, well, what can I say. They do make me feel very creepy at the best of times.. The episode with the Timber rattler occurred on an early morning archery tournament in the Redwoods in California. The snake was sitting on some wood steps warming up in the sun... I was not paying attention to my surroundings & not looking where I was walking..!! As I know I should.. I walked down the steps, looking across at the target & not where I was walking!!!
I was told I was very lucky as he hadn't warmed up & so didn't move fast...!

Ever since then have payed very good attention..!!!! :D

Bit like you David, I can walk the cliff edges and even lean over to take photos but I hate ladders. [IMG]

Ran over a half meter plus snake the other day and felt really sad.
